Vietnam Trip Cost from India 2026: Our Real 7-Night Family Trip Expenses
Planning a Vietnam trip from India in 2026 and wondering how much a real family trip can cost?
Before travelling to Vietnam, I also wanted to understand the actual expenses. Online tour packages often show a starting price, but the final amount can change after adding flights, visa, hotel, food, local transportation, sightseeing and shopping.
So, after travelling to Vietnam with my family in September 2026, I decided to share our real travel expenses.
We travelled as a group of 8 people and stayed for 7 nights and 8 days. Most of our trip was self-planned, and we travelled around Ho Chi Minh City with day trips to Vung Tau and the Cu Chi Tunnels.
This article shares our actual expenses and gives you a practical idea of how to plan a Vietnam trip budget from India.
Our Vietnam Trip at a Glance
- Destination: Vietnam
- Main city: Ho Chi Minh City
- Travel month: September 2026
- Group size: 8 people
- Hotel rooms: 4 rooms
- Stay: 7 nights / 8 days
- Trip type: Self-planned family trip
- Main sightseeing: Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau and Cu Chi Tunnels
- Local transportation: Grab and ferry
Our Vietnam Trip Cost Per Person
Our return flight cost approximately ₹36,000 per person.
Our Vietnam visa expense was approximately ₹2,500 per person.
After adding our hotel, food, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and other smaller expenses, our practical overall budget worked out to approximately ₹70,000–₹75,000 per person.
The itemized expenses that we recorded come to around ₹63,000 per person, while the higher overall figure includes smaller expenses that were not separately recorded.
So this article is not presenting ₹70,000–₹75,000 as a fixed package price. It is our real-life family-trip estimate based on our September 2026 experience.
Vietnam Flight Cost from India
Our return air ticket cost approximately:
₹36,000 per person
For 8 people:
₹36,000 × 8 = ₹2,88,000
So, our group's return airfare was approximately ₹2.88 lakh.
Flight prices can vary depending on the departure city, airline, travel dates, baggage and booking time.
For this reason, travellers should always check current flight prices for their own dates before making a final Vietnam travel budget.
Vietnam E-Visa Cost for Indian Travellers
Our Vietnam visa expense was approximately:
₹2,500 per person
For 8 people:
₹2,500 × 8 = ₹20,000
Before our trip, some agents had quoted much higher prices for visa assistance.
I researched the e-visa process myself and preferred to understand the official process and fee before paying an agent.
If you are planning a Vietnam trip from India, always check the latest official visa requirements before applying.

Our Actual Hotel Cost for 7 Nights
Because we were travelling with 8 people, we booked 4 rooms.
Our hotel booking was divided into two parts.
First 2 Nights – Booking.com
The room price was:
891,000 VND per room per night
For 4 rooms and 2 nights:
891,000 × 4 × 2 = 7,128,000 VND
Next 5 Nights – Booking at the Hotel
For the remaining 5 nights, we booked our rooms after reaching Vietnam.
The room price was:
850,000 VND per room per night
For 4 rooms and 5 nights:
850,000 × 4 × 5 = 17,000,000 VND
Total Hotel Cost
Our complete hotel calculation was:
7,128,000 + 17,000,000 = 24,128,000 VND
This was approximately ₹89,000–₹90,000 for all 4 rooms and 7 nights.
So, for 8 people:
₹89,000–₹90,000 ÷ 8 = approximately ₹11,000–₹11,250 per person
This is an important point: ₹89,000–₹90,000 was our hotel expense, not our complete Vietnam trip cost.
Our Food Expenses in Vietnam
Food was another important part of our travel budget.
As an Indian vegetarian traveller, I also had to pay attention to vegetarian food options during the trip.
Our recorded food expenses included several meals, drinks, coffee and snacks.
The amounts we recorded were approximately:
- 1,200,000 VND
- 3,200,000 VND
- 2,000,000 VND
- 850,000 VND
- 850,000 VND
- 2,500,000 VND
Total Food Expense
10,600,000 VND
This was approximately ₹39,000–₹40,000 for the recorded group expenses.
One memorable example was our Vung Tau day trip, where:
7 coffees cost 490,000 VND in total.
Small expenses such as coffee, water and snacks may seem minor, but they can add up over an 8-day trip.
Ferry Cost for Vung Tau
We also took a ferry for our Vung Tau day trip.
Our recorded ferry expense was approximately:
2,510,000 VND
That was roughly ₹9,000–₹9,500.
The ferry journey was a nice part of our family trip. We explored Vung Tau, spent time near the beach and then returned.
Grab and Local Transportation Cost
We used Grab for many local journeys in Ho Chi Minh City.
Because we were a group of 8 people, we sometimes needed two cars.
Our recorded Grab expenses were approximately:
1,700,000 VND
That was roughly ₹6,000–₹6,500.
For our Cu Chi Tunnels visit, we used two 4-seater cars.
We also used Grab for journeys to markets and other places around Ho Chi Minh City.
For example, our Grab ride towards the An Dong area was around 54,000 VND.
For a family trip, Grab was convenient because we could check the fare before travelling.
Cu Chi Tunnels Cost
The Cu Chi Tunnels was one of the major attractions we visited.
During our visit, the entrance ticket was approximately:
135,000 VND per adult
Our group also included a child, so the ticket requirement was different for the child.
There were also transportation and small additional expenses connected with the visit.
For us, the Cu Chi Tunnels expense was approximately ₹3,500 or more, depending on how the related costs are counted.

Zoo and Family Day in Ho Chi Minh City
On Day 7, we visited the zoo and later went to AEON Mall.
We spent time with the family, had food and did some shopping.
We bought clothes, gifts, purses, shoes and other items, and we also purchased groceries.

Shopping Cost in Vietnam
Shopping was another part of our Vietnam trip.
We bought:
- Clothes
- Gifts
- Purses
- Shoes
- Groceries
- Other personal items
Our approximate personal/group shopping expense that we recorded was around ₹50,000.
Shopping can be very different for every traveller, so I recommend keeping it as a separate category in your Vietnam travel budget.
Someone who buys only a few souvenirs may spend very little, while a traveller interested in fashion, gifts or wholesale products can spend much more.
Our Vietnam Wholesale Market Experience
Our Vietnam trip was not only a holiday.
I was also interested in researching wholesale clothing because I wanted to understand whether Vietnamese garments and fashion products could work for resale in India.
We visited:
An Dong Market
and
Tan Binh Market
At Tan Binh Market, we saw women's clothing, men's clothing and other fashion products.
Some men's pre-winter garments were available in larger quantities. Some three-piece size sets were around 280,000 VND per piece.
However, after considering the expected landed cost in India, the pricing did not fit our planned inventory budget.
So, we decided not to purchase wholesale stock on this trip.
This was an important business lesson for us:
Wholesale market price is not the same as final landed cost in India.
Shipping, customs, transportation and other costs also need to be considered.

Our Vietnam Trip Expense Summary
Here is our approximate expense breakdown based on the amounts we recorded:
| Expense | Approximate Cost |
|---|---|
| Return flights for 8 people | ₹2,88,000 |
| Vietnam e-visa for 8 people | ₹20,000 |
| Hotel – 4 rooms, 7 nights | ₹89,000–₹90,000 |
| Food | ₹39,000–₹40,000 |
| Ferry – Vung Tau | ₹9,000–₹9,500 |
| Grab/local transportation | ₹6,000–₹6,500 |
| Cu Chi/sightseeing | ₹3,500+ |
| Shopping | Around ₹50,000 |
| Recorded itemized expenses | Approximately ₹5.0–₹5.1 lakh |
The recorded expenses work out to approximately ₹63,000 per person for 8 people.
We also had some smaller and miscellaneous expenses that were not separately recorded in the list above.
After considering these additional expenses, our practical overall budget came to around ₹70,000–₹75,000 per person.
Does ₹70,000–₹75,000 Include Everything?
This figure should be treated as our practical overall budget based on our own experience, not as a fixed Vietnam tour price.
Some expenses were paid for the whole group, such as the hotel and some transportation.
Other expenses, especially shopping, can vary from person to person.
That is why two travellers taking a similar Vietnam itinerary can still have different final costs.
Vietnam Package vs Self-Planned Trip
Before our trip, we also looked at Vietnam tour packages.
A package may look attractive because several expenses are combined into one price.
However, always check whether the package actually includes:
- Return flights
- Visa
- Hotel
- Breakfast
- Other meals
- Airport transfers
- Local transportation
- Sightseeing
- Entrance tickets
- Guide charges
- Personal expenses
- Shopping
We preferred to plan our family trip ourselves because it gave us more flexibility.
We could choose our hotel, use Grab when needed and decide which attractions and markets we wanted to visit.
How to Reduce Vietnam Trip Cost
Book flights carefully
Compare different travel dates before booking your international tickets.
Compare hotel prices
Look at the complete booking price, room type and number of nights.
Plan food expenses
Food costs can change depending on whether you choose local restaurants, Indian restaurants, cafés or international chains.
Use local transportation wisely
Grab was convenient for many of our journeys.
Check visa information yourself
Understand the official visa process and fee before paying a large agent service charge.
Keep shopping separate
Set aside a separate shopping budget so that personal purchases do not unexpectedly increase your travel budget.
Final Vietnam Trip Cost from India in 2026
Our September 2026 Vietnam family trip helped us understand the real expenses much better.
For our group of 8 people, our main recorded expenses were:
Return flights: approximately ₹36,000 per person
Vietnam visa: approximately ₹2,500 per person
Hotel: approximately ₹89,000–₹90,000 for 4 rooms and 7 nights
Food: approximately ₹39,000–₹40,000 for the recorded group expenses
Vung Tau ferry: approximately ₹9,000–₹9,500
Grab/local transportation: approximately ₹6,000–₹6,500
Cu Chi and sightseeing: approximately ₹3,500+
Shopping: around ₹50,000
Our recorded itemized expenses came to around ₹63,000 per person, and after adding smaller expenses that were not separately recorded, our practical overall budget was approximately ₹70,000–₹75,000 per person.
Your actual Vietnam trip can cost less or more depending on your flight price, hotel, food choices, transportation, sightseeing and shopping.
Final Thoughts
Vietnam does not have one fixed travel price for every traveller.
The best way to prepare your budget is to calculate:
Flights + Visa + Hotel + Food + Transportation + Sightseeing + Shopping + Miscellaneous
Our experience showed us that calculating every category separately gives a much clearer idea of the actual cost.
For our 8-person, 7-night Vietnam family trip in September 2026, our recorded expenses worked out to around ₹63,000 per person, while our practical overall budget was around ₹70,000–₹75,000 per person after smaller additional expenses.
The biggest lesson from our trip was simple:
Do not calculate your Vietnam holiday only from the tour-package price.
Look at the complete cost.
That is how you can prepare a more realistic Vietnam travel budget before leaving India.
