3 Indian Restaurants We Tried in Ho Chi Minh City: Our Family Food Experience

When travelling to another country, trying local food is one of the most enjoyable parts of the journey. But when you are travelling with a family, there are also days when you simply want the familiar taste of home.

During our family trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in September 2026, we were a group of eight people staying at White Lion Hotel in District 3. We enjoyed exploring Vietnamese food, but we also wanted to have proper Indian meals during our stay.

During our trip, we ate at The Indian House twice, Indian Cuisine twice, and Saffron – Flavours of India once.

All three restaurants served Indian cuisine, with vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian choices. This is our family's personal experience of eating at these restaurants during our Vietnam trip.

The Indian House – Our First Indian Food Experience

The Indian House was one of the first Indian restaurants we tried in Ho Chi Minh City, and we actually ate there twice during our stay.

The restaurant is currently listed at 30 Ton That Thiep, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

Our first visit was special because after arriving in Vietnam and spending time exploring the city, it was comforting to sit down for a proper Indian meal.

The menu had the type of Indian food we were looking for. It was not limited to vegetarian dishes; there were also non-vegetarian choices.

We enjoyed our meals at The Indian House, but we noticed that some dishes were comparatively more expensive than what we later found at Indian Cuisine.

For example, one dish we saw at The Indian House was around 269,000 VND, while a similar item at Indian Cuisine was around 120,000 VND.

Another item that was around 169,000 VND at The Indian House was available for approximately 100,000 VND at Indian Cuisine.

These are the prices we personally saw during our September 2026 trip, so travellers should check current prices before ordering.

We liked the food and experience enough to return to The Indian House for a second meal during our stay.

Indian Cuisine – Small Place, Very Tasty Food and Better Prices

Indian Cuisine became one of our favourite discoveries during the trip, and we ate there twice.

The restaurant was within walking distance of our White Lion Hotel. It was a very different experience from a large, formal restaurant.

It was a small and simple place, with a shop-like area downstairs and a small dining area above.

But for us, the most important thing was the food.

The food was very tasty.

We found the restaurant particularly good for a family looking for familiar Indian food without spending too much. The menu had the Indian dishes we wanted, including both vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices.

The price difference compared with The Indian House was noticeable.

A dish that was around 269,000 VND at The Indian House was around 120,000 VND here. Another item that was around 169,000 VND at The Indian House was approximately 100,000 VND at Indian Cuisine.

For a group of eight people, these differences can add up.

What we liked most was that the restaurant did not need to be big or fancy to give us a satisfying meal. The food was tasty, the prices were comparatively reasonable, and the location was convenient for us because it was close to our hotel.

That is why we returned there for a second time.

Saffron – Flavours of India – Our Sunday Discovery

Our visit to Saffron – Flavours of India happened because of an unexpected change in our plan.

One Sunday, we went back to Indian Cuisine because we wanted to eat there again. But when we reached the restaurant, we found that it was closed.

So we started looking around for another place to eat.

While walking around the area, we found Saffron – Flavours of India.

The restaurant is listed at 147 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

Saffron was quite different from Indian Cuisine. It was a larger, multi-storey restaurant with a more spacious restaurant-style setting.

When we went inside, we also met some Indian travellers. They were South Indian travellers, and we started talking to them about the food.

They were happy to meet us and shared their experience with us. They told us that they were having a very good experience there.

After hearing their recommendation, we decided to try the restaurant.

The food was good, and we found the prices to be in a similar range to what we had experienced at Indian Cuisine.

For us, another lovely part of the visit was what happened with our younger son.

Our son was nine years old, and the restaurant gave him an ice cream as a complimentary treat.

It was a small gesture, but when you are travelling with children, these little moments can become some of the nicest memories of a family trip.

Saffron also had the kind of Indian menu we were looking for, with vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian Indian food.

Our Experience at the Three Indian Restaurants

After eating at these restaurants multiple times, we felt that each one offered something different.

The Indian House

Our visits: 2

What we liked: Familiar Indian food and a proper Indian restaurant experience.

Our observation: Some dishes were more expensive compared with Indian Cuisine.

Indian Cuisine

Our visits: 2

What we liked: Very tasty food, simple atmosphere, convenient location and better prices for some dishes.

Our observation: It was a small and simple restaurant, but the food was good enough for us to return a second time.

Saffron – Flavours of India

Our visits: 1

What we liked: Larger multi-storey restaurant, good food, positive feedback from other Indian travellers and complimentary ice cream for our nine-year-old son.

Our observation: A comfortable option when you want a more traditional restaurant setting.

Is Indian Food Easy to Find in Ho Chi Minh City?

Based on our family's experience, yes, Indian food is available in Ho Chi Minh City.

We were travelling as a group of eight, and we were able to find restaurants serving the kind of Indian food we were familiar with in India.

We did not eat only vegetarian food. The restaurants we visited offered both vegetarian and non-vegetarian Indian choices, so different members of our family could order according to their preferences.

This was particularly useful during a longer family trip.

Some days we enjoyed trying Vietnamese food and experiencing the local cuisine. On other days, we simply wanted something familiar such as curry, rice, naan or other Indian dishes.

Our experience also taught us that prices can vary considerably between Indian restaurants.

If you are travelling on a budget, it is worth checking the menu and prices before ordering.

Indian Food and Family Travel in Vietnam

For our family, finding Indian restaurants was not only about satisfying hunger.

When eight people are travelling together, everyone may have different food preferences. Having Indian restaurants available gave us another choice when we wanted something familiar.

It was also helpful for our child.

At Saffron, the complimentary ice cream given to our nine-year-old son became a small but memorable part of the trip.

These are the kinds of details that do not always appear in standard travel guides, but they are important when you are sharing a real family travel experience.

Which Restaurant Would We Choose?

We would not say that there is one restaurant that is automatically the best for everyone.

Our experiences were different.

The Indian House was a familiar Indian-food option that we liked enough to visit twice.

Indian Cuisine was our standout choice for the combination of taste and price. It was small and simple, but the food was very tasty and we returned twice.

Saffron – Flavours of India gave us a more spacious restaurant experience. Meeting other Indian travellers there and receiving complimentary ice cream for our son made the visit particularly memorable.

If I had to describe our experience in one sentence:

The Indian House gave us a familiar Indian meal, Indian Cuisine impressed us with tasty food at comparatively lower prices, and Saffron – Flavours of India gave us a memorable family dining experience.

Final Thoughts

Our Vietnam trip was not only about sightseeing. Food became an important part of our journey too.

We enjoyed trying Vietnamese food, but having Indian restaurants available gave our family a comfortable alternative whenever we wanted familiar flavours.

For Indian travellers visiting Ho Chi Minh City, especially families, our experience showed that there are different types of Indian restaurants to choose from—from smaller and more budget-friendly places to larger restaurants.

Our three restaurant experiences were based on what we personally ate and experienced during our September 2026 family trip, so menus, prices, opening hours and restaurant locations may change over time.

For us, these five restaurant visits became another memorable part of our Vietnam family journey.
